Thalassophobia is the fear of deep, dark bodies of water where what is beneath the surface is unknown.
'Siren Song' aims to spread awareness for the phobia, and allow people without it to experience how it feels or even act as exposure therapy for people with it.

Thalassophobia is classed as a ‘specific phobia’, which are caused by: genetics, past experiences, and upbringings. Common symptoms are anxiety, nausea, dizziness, shortness of breath, a need to escape, and more. Thalassophobia is also deeply connected to survival instincts and the fear of the unknown which helped ancestors avoid dangers like predators and drowning. ‘Specific phobias’ impact around 9% of US adults and reportedly suffered more by women than men.
